about

The first real sign that living in the middle of London, England was perhaps not great for my health. My recordings had started to become increasingly reflective of this claustrophobic urban environment, and the UK in 2005-6 was not a happy place to be. This all became very real on 7 July 2005, when terrorists set off bombs on London's public transport system during morning rush hour. I was one of several million commuters that day, only three stops away from the danger zone, listening to Roy Montgomery on my iPod (singing 'It's Cold Outside', of all things). Blue Light District includes a snatch of a recording from that day, but mostly the album reflects on the gloom that descended over the country in the year or so that followed.

From the screaming of foxes in the back garden to the incessant chattering of manic birds, there is little respite to be found in this album. The title is most definitely ironic.
