Burning A Hole In The Sun [Rehearsal]

from Driftnet [Collected Debris 1998-2018] by Peter Wright

about

Recorded December 2007, Streathbourne Road, London.

Late in 2007 I was invited to perform at a show in London arranged by sound artist Patrick McGinley, and for this I decided to try and create a new 'instrument', rather than working yet again with the guitar. Instrument building is not a talent of mine, but somehow I managed to pull together a noise-making device from a metal serving tray (dubbed the Kitsch String Tray, due to the tacky decorations of bikini clad women painted on it's surface), a homemade dodgy contact microphone, and a single old guitar string stretched across the surface. I used an ebow and ran the whole mess through Ableton on my laptop. I recorded the rehearsals for this show - issuing one of the tracks on Burning A Hole In The Sun. This is another take from the same rehearsals.
